About Dr. Gauby

Dr. Van Gauby is a residency trained board certified physician both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine and has been in practice sine 1993.

Dr. Gauby received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Berea College, Berea, KY (1984) and completed his medical degree at Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio. (1988). He subsequently completed residency training in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine and maintains Board Certification in both disciplines. Additionally, he has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP) and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. (FAAFP)

Throughout his career he has practiced at Level I & II Trauma centers as well as community hospitals. Since 2001 he has been an attending Emergency Medicine Physician at Hilton Head Hospital and more recently has joined the team at Main Street Medical providing both Primary and Urgent Care.

Dr. Gauby has a strong interest in education and has been an instructor for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for over 25 years. He currently is a Family Medicine Clinic Faculty member with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is a preceptor for both Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. He has been director of numerous Emergency Medical Services including Hilton Head Fire Rescue as well as a paramedic instructor. He has experience in Firefighting / Heavy Rescue / and Dive Rescue and Recovery. He was formerly Assistant Fire Chief of Brookville Fire Department, Brookville, OH.

In addition to his local practice, Dr. Gauby participates in International Medicine efforts and staffs a clinic in the Bahamas 2 weeks each year as well as additional Christian Medical Missions serving rural areas in mostly Central / South America and Africa.

Dr. Gauby resides on Hilton Head Island with his wife Janel. He is a private pilot, enjoys adventure: such as climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, cross country skiing at the North Pole, hiking the Grand Canyon, snow skiing, scuba diving, international travel as well as spending time with his wife and two children.
